This was a school in the 1970s-90s, but the school is not presently functional.
The younger generation (the children of the people who came in the 60s & 70s) are making plans to take it over within the next few years and run it as an artist's colony, which is what my parents intended it to be.
This is Quarry Hill Creative Center, Vermont's oldest alternative lifestyle community founded by Irving and Barbara Fiske in 1946. In the 60s many young people of all kinds came to live with the Fiskes and travel with them. Up to 90 people lived here, with many visitors from all parts of the world, and even today a large number of residents live with the Fiske family; Quarry Hill is 71 years old and still going strong as an unusual people's retreat and artist's community.
This is also a rental corporation run by the Fiske family. We offer rooms at a very reasonable rate. Houses are occasionally for sale and the residents have long leases. It is extremely child and animal friendly, as everyone who lives here agrees not to harm animals, ( however you do not have to be a vegetarian to live here, but you can't hunt, fish or kill animals) and to strike a child is to be asked to leave.
